Legacy supports families like Gwen’s through the toughest times

“I’ve been to absolute hell and back, with my husband’s mental health issues, trying to protect my family while helping him, and then his death,” Gwen bravely admits.

“I couldn’t have done it without the support of Legacy.”

For Gwen, Legacy has been a lifesaver. After her husband, retired Sergeant Peter Jon Cafe, tragically took his own life in 2017, her Legacy volunteers were always close by. They were a constant presence in her family’s life, providing both emotional and practical support for her, and their two kids.

Peter was a highly decorated soldier and served his country in Iraq, Afghanistan and East Timor. Unfortunately, Peter had PTSD from his time serving in war zones, and  lived with deep depression, anxiety and bouts of anger. Gwen tried to help him, but his demons were too many.

Because of funds raised by people like you, Legacy was able to be there for Gwen and her kids after Peter’s tragic death.

The care Legacy give to families can never replace their loved one, but we have promised that no widow, widower or child will be forgotten after a veteran’s sacrifice.
