You’re helping veterans’ kids and their families

You’re a Legacy Legend

The funds you raise this November during The Legacy Challenge will help support our veterans’ families.

When you take on this challenge, you’ll be joining the Legacy community made up of people that

🪖  Served in wars to protect our freedom and democracy.
👵  Made a commitment to be a lifelong volunteer – supporting veterans' families.
👩‍👧‍👦  Are helping raise the children of veterans who lost their life, or health, because of their service.
❤️  Care deeply about children and value the importance of an extended family.
🫡  Remember and respect a life or career in service to strangers.

THANK YOU for caring about Legacy families.

Legacy families you’re helping

The funds you raise for The Legacy Challenge will support the families of Australian Defence Force men and women who have lost their lives or their health as a result of their service.

Mia, QLD

“Talking to Legacy’s Youth Leaders at camp about my story made me feel safe, comfortable, and less alone. I was able to talk about the feelings I had and not feel judged for how I felt as they understood my pain.”

Mia’s dad served in the Army in East Timor.
When Mia was 6, her dad took his own life.

Amy, NSW

“After Tim died and I was a single mother, I didn’t know how I could afford to keep our 3 boys at the school that Tim had dearly wanted them to attend. But thanks to a multi-year education grant from Legacy, the boy’s education was one less thing I had to worry about.”

Amy’s husband Tim served in the Air Force.
Tim passed away from Leukemia.

Libby, NSW

“Someone suggested I contact Legacy, which surprised me. I didn’t know that they helped families like mine. I just thought Legacy only helped widows.”

“The emotional support is everything… but they’ve helped in so many other practical ways. During lockdown, when the kids had to be home-schooled, there was no way we could afford 4 laptops for the kids – but Legacy took care of that for us.”

Libby’s husband Chris was deployed with the Army three times to service in conflict zones.
Chris now lives with debilitating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Remembering the fallen

This challenge allows you to honour the veterans that have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

This is your opportunity to do something positive to help their children and partners left behind.

The money you raise doing The Legacy Challenge will support single parents, keep kids active, help pay for education and equipment, provide counselling and emotional support and so much more.

Your fundraising impact – who your donations help

Your Legacy Challenge will show respect and support for the sacrifice veterans and their families have made for our freedom. But it’s the funds you raise that will make the biggest difference in the lives of the partners and kids living with that sacrifice every day.

FINANCIAL HELP

When a veteran’s family is doing it tough, the Legacy community make sure there is food on the table and the kids have what they need for school.

UNDERSTANDING & EMOTIONAL SUPPORT

Because we come from the military community, Legacy is able to support veterans' families in times of loss and grief, caring for their emotional well-being.

KEEP KIDS ACTIVE & ENGAGED

Legacy is family first! We make sure that the children of our servicemen and women don’t miss out on any educational, sport or other extracurricular activities.

Thank you for getting involved to help support veterans' families.

Mon and Wes push their limits for Legacy kids

Army Captains Monika and Wes wanted to take on a big challenge AND raise money for Legacy.

The challenge they chose was to do the first ever unsupported hike through the Australian Alps. “No one had ever done it unsupported before,” says Monika. “We wanted to set a new record and raise money for Legacy to support veteran’s kids.”

Monika was a first-time fundraiser and delighted to discover “how many people got behind the fundraiser. The amount of support and donations was amazing.”

“As long as you’re authentic about what you're doing and why you are doing it, people really relate to that.”

Monika and Wes walked between 15-18 hours each day for a total of 20 days. They found some parts of the hike were even more difficult than their rigorous army training.

When times got tough, they remembered WHY they were pushing themselves to their limits. “Parts of the trip were really difficult,” recalls Monika. “However, when we had phone reception and saw messages of support and more donations, it really motivated us.”

Monika and Wes raised an incredible $7,000 for Legacy Kids and to support veterans’ families.

The Legacy Challenge is your chance to remember the fallen and do something positive for Legacy kids.
